Trekking

For those who love to explore the pristine Himalayan nature, we offer a variety of trekking packages at the same cost of cultural tours. The duration of treks can range from minimum nine days to a month and we recommend a few days of cultural sightseeing at the end of the trek.  Trekking involves walking through routes that pass by some of the highest mountains in the world. These snowcapped peaks remain unexplored because mountaineering is forbidden in Bhutan due to the belief that mountains are abodes of holy deities and are considered to be sacred.

During the treks, you will be provided with one professional trekking guide, sleeping tents, cooks to prepare your meals, several horses/yaks for carrying the supplies. However we recommend our guest to bring in their own sleeping bags for hygienic reasons. For less than three people we don’t organize treks as the tariff doesn’t cover the expenses. However for those willing to pay supplementary amount it can be arranged.

Trekking routes and camping sites provide a generous amount of interaction with local people to experience the Bhutanese way of life. There are about 14 approved trekking routes and the most popular ones are Drukpath, Jomolhari, Snowman Trek and Laya-Gasa (hot spring) Trek. The most appropriate trekking times are mid-March to mid-May and mid-September to beginning of November.

 1.      Drukpath Trek (5-6 days): This is one of the most spectacular routes and takes you from Paro to Thimphu or vice versa. The highest altitude you will reach is 4200 meters and you will see some of the most beautiful lakes located at 3870 meters. During the season you will come across a sea of rhododendron flowers.

 2.      Jomolhari Trek (8-9 days): Another breath taking trekking route which starts from Paro and comes out from Thimphu. The highest camp is at the altitude of 4100 meters. This trek takes you to the base camp of Jhomolhari and you have the option to go to Lingzhi (4950m) a remote village with a fortress perched on a hill top.

 3.      Snowman Trek (25days): This is a long trek that must be undertaken between September and October and is considered as the most difficult trek in the world because of the altitude. You can either start this trek from Punakha (shorter duration) or from Paro (longer duration) and come out from Bumthang in central Bhutan. This trek takes you to the base of all mountains and the source of all glacial rivers of Bhutan. There are no words to describe this trek. The only way to understand it is to experience it personally.

 4.     Cultural Treks: Apart from high altitude treks, we offer day trip cultural treks in Punakha,   Thimphu and Bumthang. Cultural treks are daylong treks and you come back to the hotel for the night halt. Usually, you will take pack lunch and stroll through the villages and visit monasteries, schools etc. Such cultural treks give you an insight into the Bhutanese way of life in the community.
